OBOF & OBOFE

Brazilian Online Olympiads

The Brazilian Online Olympiads (OBOs) were created by the NOIC project in 2023 with the goal of promoting a culture of academic competitions in Brazil. The use of technology allows for more accessible exams for students of all levels. All OBOs are held online and are free of charge, enabling any interested Brazilian student to develop and test their knowledge. In 2025, we have 14 different OBOs, each with hundreds or even thousands of registered students.

In a new step toward NOIC’s goal of providing knowledge to all who seek it, we are taking the OBOs beyond Brazil. In 2025, the Brazilian Online Olympiad of Physics (OBOF) and the Brazilian Online Olympiad of Experimental Physics (OBOFE) will have categories open to international students. These categories are named after Cesar Lattes and Jayme Tiomno, two of the most important Brazilian scientists in history. It’s important to note that they are open to students of all ages and physics levels.

Below, you’ll find more information about both Olympiads. To find out more about the NOIC project, see the bottom of the page.

OBOF – Cesar Lattes Category

The Brazilian Online Olympiad of Physics (OBOF) is a competition created by NOIC in partnership with the Fisicadu channel. It was established in 2023, making it one of the project’s first Olympiads.

The Cesar Lattes category, being held for the first time in 2025, is open to international students as well as Brazilian students who have already finished high school or are preparing for international physics Olympiad selection processes.

The first phase is slightly more advanced than a typical high school curriculum (at least in Brazil), drawing inspiration from exams like the entrance exam for ITA, a top Brazilian engineering university. The second phase is inspired by international physics Olympiad exams, aiming to offer an experience similar to the IPhO (but without the long questions) and EuPhO in an online format. It’s perfect for anyone who wants to train for these competitions or just have fun.

You can find more specific information about the OBOF in the rules below, along with the registration form and the competition calendar.

OBOFE – Jayme Tiomno Category:

The Brazilian Online Olympiad of Experimental Physics (OBOFE) is a competition created by the NOIC project to encourage the study of experimental physics in Brazil. The inaugural edition of this Olympiad is taking place in 2025.

Just like the Cesar Lattes category of the OBOF, the Jayme Tiomno category is open to international students and Brazilian students who have completed high school or are preparing for the selection process for international physics Olympiads.

The first phase consists of multiple-choice questions covering a variety of topics and skills in experimental physics, highlighting important aspects of this subject. The second phase is also inspired by international Olympiad exams, using simulators to create similar challenges.

Co-Organizer:

Physics Hub is an international science-education initiative that connects students and teachers worldwide through Olympiads, online platforms, and creative projects. Founded as a student-led effort, it has grown into a global community with 19+ countries in its flagship event — the Global Autumn Physics Competition. Alongside competitions, Physics Hub publishes educational resources, produces scientific animations, and engages an audience of over 25,000 learners across platforms. In 2025, became a co-organizer of the OBOF and OBOFE, helping to build and promote these Olympiads worldwide.

Partner:

Fisicadu is a Brazilian channel and a partner of the NOIC project. Its primary focus is on physics education, and it collaborated with NOIC to create the Brazilian Online Olympiad of Physics (OBOF) and the Brazilian Online Olympiad of Experimental Physics (OBOFE). The channel provides educational content and is dedicated to promoting interest in physics among students.

What is NOIC?

The Núcleo Olímpico de Incentivo ao Conhecimento (NOIC), which translates to “Olympic Center for the Incentive of Knowledge,” is a non-profit initiative founded in 2013. It was created by students with a passion for academic competitions and a desire to help others prepare for these events. In its 12 years of history, NOIC has grown into a vast platform offering a wealth of free, high-quality resources.

The organization’s main objective is to provide accessible and well-organized knowledge to students. This is accomplished by a dedicated team of almost 100 active members who produce thousands of pages of content, including comprehensive study guides, theoretical courses, and mock exams. With over 7 million views, the platform has proven its value in the academic community. To further assist students, NOIC also publishes the Jornal Olímpico, a newsletter that helps them stay updated on competition calendars, deadlines, and key news related to national and international Olympiads.

The initiative has expanded significantly since its inception and continues to seek new ways to improve. The team works every day with the goal of making NOIC better for its readers and inspiring a love for learning. While all of our current materials are in Portuguese, we are committed to expanding the project’s reach by developing content in other languages in the near future.
